Mac-the-Naw is back

Doug Busey

Hello fellow anglers, the Naw is back from vacation. What a great trip. My fishing partner in crime Steve Lightfoot went with me to Wildhorse reservoir, 60 miles south of Elko.

On the trip we encountered the Mormon cricket invasion, which was 20 miles long. We were buzzed by four jets while fishing, barbecued until we couldn’t eat any more. The good news is we brought back a 15.4and a 9.6- pound catfish along with four large rainbow trout. But now for the great news.

On July 29, I will be stocking Sawmill Pond with approximately 500 rainbow trout, mostly in the 1Ú2-to-3Ú4-pound range. But the real fun news is I have pitched in a few extra trout in the 2-to-3 pound class. This was my donation for the kids. Thanks to our community’s kindness in their donations. I have a new plan for next year.

I will be accepting donations the rest of this year and into next year. If everything works out, I will plant the pond in late April and again in July. This will give our kids more fishing opportunities. Unfortunately, I can’t plant after July due to the water temperatures and to protect the vegetation that surrounds the pond.

All donations I receive will go to that plant. And with the new aquaculturist I have acquired, I can plant the pond for only $500 each time.

Thank you all again for your support in this program. Their will be a public thank you in the near future for all who made this happen. Your fishing report will follow next week. Good fishin’ and tight lines.
