Marathon entries still being accepted

More than 2,000 runners have registered for the Lake Tahoe Marathon on Sunday.

Participants can still sign up for the marathon, wheelchair marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K. The marathon relay is sold out. Reportedly, the half-marathon is near capacity.

Race-day registration is $90 for the marathon and wheelchair races, $55 for half-marathon and $45 for the 10K.

The Lake Tahoe Marathon is expected to draw approximately 7,500 visitors to Lake Tahoe. For more information, call 530-544-7095 or visit the Lake Tahoe Marathon website at

Kids Fun Run, 5K Saturday

In a warmup to Sunday’s Lake Tahoe Marathon, the Optimist Club is holding a Kids’ Fun Run and 5K on Saturday at Valhalla Estate.

Distances vary and racers are grouped according to ages for the free Kids’ Fun Run, which start at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. Children 5 and under will run 200 meters; 6 and 7, 400 meters; 8 and 9, mile; 10 and 11, 1 mile; and 12 and 13, 1 miles.

Medals are awarded to all participants and hot dogs and sodas will be provided following the racing. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Preceding the Kids’ Fun Run is a competitive 5K run. A $25 entry fee includes a marathon T-shirt. Runners can register before the 9 a.m. race or from noon to 5 p.m. at the marathon expo Friday at the Horizon Casino Resort conference room. Top three runners in each five-year age groups will receive awards.
