Marchini wins gold medal at Chicago meet

Haley Marchini won the first gold medal for Tahoe Gymnastics this season, and both Kaelyn Dion and Jo Herrera both had solid performances recently at the seventh annual Chicago Style Gymnastics Meet.

Marchini won gold on the balance beam after receiving a score of 9.15. In the same event, Dion scored a 8.25 and Herrera a 8.15 for Tahoe Gymnastics, which competed with more than 3,300 participants representing 30 states in one of the largest gymnastics meets in the world. All three girls were competing as level 5 gymnasts.

In the floor exercise, all three Tahoe girls posted personal records: Dion (8.25), Marchini (8.425) and Herrera (7.85). In the vault, Dion, Herrera and Marchini recorded scores of 8.35, 8.0 and 8.35, respectively. And in the uneven bars, Marchini led the way with an 8.25, while Dion scored a 7.9 and Herrera a 6.7.

In the all-around competition, Marchini placed sixth, Dion took 19th, and Herrera finished in 28th.

“I’m very proud of the all the girls,” said coach Tiffany Seeley. “This was a huge meet with lots of distractions and all the girls pulled together and cheered each other on to do their very best. Every one of the girls continues to improve.”

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams from Tahoe Gymnastics competed in Reno last weekend in the Starz and Stripes meet at the Reno Hilton.
