McIntyre registers fourth sack of season
Defensive end Garrett McIntyre has been delivering big plays ever since he was inserted into the San Jose SaberCats’ starting lineup.
In his fifth straight start last Friday in Phoenix, the former South Tahoe High football player registered his fourth quarterback of the season in a 63-42 trouncing of the Arizona Rattlers.
The win gave the SaberCats (6-5) a firmer grip on first place in the Arena Football League’s Western Division. Arizona, which missed a chance to move into first place, dropped to 4-6.
His sack of Arizona quarterback Jeff Smoker was for a six-yard loss in the second quarter. It enabled the ‘Cats current defensive unit to equal the second-most sacks (19) ever recorded in a season by the franchise. The franchise’s all-time season record is 31 sacks.
McIntyre was also in on a tackle for a two-yard loss on a running play and finished with 2.5 tackles.
Mark Grieb threw for 289 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the offense.
