McLaughlin says going getting smoother

Tribune Staff Report

Admittedly not playing its best power game, Whittell High volleyball coach Dan McLaughlin said his team’s victory at Manogue on Tuesday night was an example of smoothing out the edges.

“Manogue was one of the tough division teams we had to get by. We played solid defense and learned we can outserve a team when we need to,” he said.

The Warriors were hot on the serve. Erin Zaskoda added 12 service winners to her 14 kills and three blocks. Jahna Rico launched 19 winners, including six aces. Karin Kaleta added 10 kills and five blocks, while Aurora Terry smacked eight kills with four blocks and Sarah Sufka tossed 43 assists.

The Warriors (3-1 league, 15-4 overall) host North Tahoe, last year’s state runners-up, on Friday.
