Mountain bike race at Sierra at Tahoe

by Staff

Sierra-at-Tahoe has brought mountain bike racing to the South Shore.

Sierra in cooperation with Camp Richardson will host the first annual Huckleberry Hustle cross-country mountain bike race Sept. 13.

“We’re just jazzed to get into the mountain bike business,” said John Rice, Sierra general manager. “We know the demand is there. Many of our skiers and boarders ride mountain bikes, and we want to provide their summer mountain sports as well as winter. We have a lot of good riders in this area looking for an event and we hope this can be it.”

The Huckleberry Hustle is a National Off-Road Bicycle Association-sanctioned race and is open to all age and ability levels. Race categories will include men’s and women’s divisions of beginner, sport and expert.

The newly designed race course will wind through the forests of Huckleberry Mountain. Registration forms will be available at local bike shops, including Tahoe Bike Shop, Sierra Cycle Works and Sports Ltd. Participants may also register the day of the event from 8 to 9:30 a.m., but they must be members of NORBA. A one-day NORBA membership will be available at the race for $5.

Race entry is $25 and included a raffle ticket. The race will start at 10 a.m.
