New weapons for deputies

Tribune Staff Report

El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies will be upgrading their weapons soon. The Board of Supervisors has approved a $10,912 contract with San Diego Police Equipment Co., Inc. for 14 Sig Sauer pistols.

The contract also covers the cost of 43 gun magazines, a dozen gun lights and seven gun short triggers.

The fire power will be used by El Dorado’s SWAT team members during field testing and if the Sig Sauer models pass tests, the models may become standard issue among sheriff’s deputies. The department had reported problems with the firearms currently issued officers.
