New year, new fish

Hello fellow anglers. What are you doing on New Year’s Day?

As most of you know, Topaz Lake (located on Highway 395, just 19 miles south of Gardnerville) is situated on the California/Nevada border, meaning sportsmen are allowed to use a fishing license from either state.

In talking to Chuck Fields, owner of Topaz Marina, I learned he will be on hand to help anglers launch their boat. All he asks is for anglers to please have all your gear in your boat and be ready when you get in line. This will make the boat-launching process a lot more smoother.

The lake is almost full, only five feet from the top, and is free of any remaining ice.

After years of planning, Chuck is raising trophy trout to be released later in the year. 1000 trout currently reside in two separate pens, submerged in the lake. Right now, the trout range from two to three pounds, but by the release date (tentatively set for June) they should be in the 5-pound plus range.

For more information on Topaz Lake or the special fish that are raised there, please call Chuck Fields at 266-3550. Hope to see you there.

Happy New Year and Good Fishin’
