NFL’s real season starts this weekend
This week marks the start of the real NFL season.
With only 5 games remaining, all the teams will try to gather momentum going into the playoffs. Don’t forget it was this time last year that the Patriots went on their run of six straight wins to make the playoffs and ultimately win the Super Bowl.
After 11 games, only a handful of teams have been eliminated from playoff contention. It seems as though the realignment has made the leagues even more forgiving and has given every fan a reason to stay tuned.
Let’s look at the hot teams going into this week’s games. In the AFC, the Jets have looked the most impressive with four straight wins and have worked their way into second place in the East. The Colts and Raiders have both won three straight to move to the lead in their respective divisions.
Teams going the other way include the Bills and Bengals, both losers of three in a row.
The NFC’s hottest team is the Buccaneers with a four-bagger after beating the Packers and gaining a one-game lead in the home-field-advantage race. The Eagles and Falcons both have a two-game winning streak.
Teams that are eliminating themselves from contention include the Cardinals (losers of five straight) and the Saints (losers of two in a row).
This week, we have a matchup that pits two teams going in opposite directions. In Cleveland, the Browns have won two straight and face the Panthers, who have lost eight in a row. This appears a good spot to bet the Browns and give the seven points.
The best game of the week is on Monday when the Jets travel to the Raiders. Both teams appear poised to make the playoffs and the winner may be in a position to win their division.
This time of year is loaded with sporting events. The college football season is down to just a few games, but today’s slate is loaded with big games. Four big rival games are on tap and you can catch all the action in the Tavern at Lakeside. Also, the college basketball season has started with a constant parade of tournament games from Hawaii and other warm-weather locations.
Here is this week’s 3-teamer: USC D11, Browns D7 and Titans +3. That’s it, have a safe holiday weekend and I’ll see ya in the Tavern.
