Not what the Proctor ordered

Team violations and disciplinary action will leave South Tahoe High without nine varsity players going into its Sierra Division girls’ basketball opener tonight in Carson City.

First-year coach Chris Proctor is bringing up three junior varsity players and two from the freshman squad to mix with four remaining varsity members. The team infractions and disciplinary action took place during and after the Vikings’ participation in the Costa Mesa Invitational Dec. 26-31.

“We scouted Carson and were preparing for them for two weeks. Now, it’s a new game. We’ll probably play freshmen and sophomores against Carson,” said STHS coach Chris Proctor.

STHS finished 1-3 in the Costa Mesa Invitational, defeating Dominguez 52-22. The Vikings lost to Santa Ana Valley 45-30, Tesoro 41-25 and to Tuftin.

Proctor disciplined several of his varsity players in Costa Mesa, allowing some unproven underclassmen to shine.

“Stephanie Morrow played the entire tournament and she did a great job,” Proctor said of his freshman player. “Jessica Lopez hadn’t had an opportunity to play and she stepped up and played against girls who are very talented, and that was impressive.

“In general, all of the sophomores and freshmen did a great job. It was exciting to see them play and they played a lot.”
