Novasel leads Vikings to second at Eagle Valley
Mollie Novasel was back to her usual self and two other Vikings finished in the top-10 as South Tahoe’s golf team took second at a Sierra Division meet at Eagle Valley’s East Course Tuesday in Carson City.
Novasel carded an 84 to finish second overall and North Valleys’ Danielle Oliver took first with a 78. Novasel shot a 97 and took eighth last week at Wildcreek Golf Course, an event in which the Vikings finished third. This week, though, South Tahoe took over second place in the division standings.
Jenelle Alessi shot a personal-best 88 to finish in a tie for fifth and Jennifer Bigelow had a 97 for the Vikings, who finished with a team total of 483 strokes. Carson, which took second at last week’s meet, was third this week with 489 strokes. Reno won its third division meet of the season with a 439.
“We’re just happy to be back in second place alone instead of tied for second,” said South Tahoe coach Marsha Butler. “I think everybody is pleased with how things went today. Eagle Valley is a long course which really helped out Mollie Novasel’s game. It’s pretty wide open and Mollie is averaging about 250 yards off the tee right now. She even had one that went 270 yards.”
Sara Morris and Nicole Uibel both had 107s for South Tahoe, which plays its next division tournament on Tuesday at Rosewood Lakes. The Vikings took second in their first meet of the season at Sierra Sage G.C.
