Orlich offering three camps

Tribune Staff Reports

If you wait until summer to enroll in some summer camps, your kids likely will be stuck at home.

The South Tahoe Basketball Camp is no exception.

Camp director Tom Orlich is advising parents to enroll by the end of May to reserve spots for their children in the appropriate sessions.

“It can fill up by the end of May or early June and after that you never know,” said Orlich, who coached the STHS basketball program to more than 500 wins and two state championships in 25 years. “Eighty percent of our campers are from outside Tahoe for the three-day camps, and 75 percent are from Tahoe for the youth camp.”

Boys ages 9 to 18 and girls 14 to 18 are eligible for the June 29 through July 1 camp. The July 13-15 camp is geared toward boys 9 to 18. The cost is $95 per camper. There is a maximum capacity of 180 players for each camp.

Orlich is expecting former STHS and Kansas star Jerod Haase to make a one-day appearance at the first camp.

In addition, Orlich is directing a June 26-27 youth camp catering to boys 7 to 12 and girls 7 to 14. This camp has a capacity of 100, but Orlich accepted 140 campers last year. The cost is $80.
