Orlich’s hoop camps have openings

Parents still have time to enroll their children in Tom Orlich’s youth basketball camp June 27-29 at South Tahoe High School.

Forty of the 100 spots remain for the clinic for 7- to 12-year-old boys and girls.

“It’s unique in that we’re trying to reach boys and girls at the lower levels and elementary schools and getting them involved,” said Orlich, who has guided STHS to two state titles in 25 years as the Vikings coach.

Former Whittell coach Andy Hughes and ex-Douglas coach Aubrey McCrary will assist Orlich with the camp. The camp runs from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. Campers can bring a lunch or purchase it at STHS.

“The camp covers various fundamentals for all levels of play and various competitions from individual-to-team competition,” Orlich said.

The cost is $85, but hardship scholarships will be available to needy families.

Space also remains for Orlich’s 25th annual South Tahoe Basketball Camp: June 23-25 for boys 9-18 and girls 14-18; and July 14-16 for boys 9-18.

The cost is $85 per player for each camp.
