Former South Tahoe High basketball coach Tom Orlich and his West Clovis Golden Eagles have earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Central Section tournament.

The Fresno-area high school shared the Tri-River Athletic Conference championship with Clovis and carries a 23-5 record into the 15-team Division I tournament.

The Golden Eagles will receive the only bye on Wednesday and will play either Madera or Bullard on Friday night. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for March 2 and 5.

Clovis West fell into a first-place tie with Clovis following a 56-55 defeat on Friday night.

Orlich directed the Vikings to 521 victories, two state titles and nine regional championships from 1975 through 2000.
