Palmer will put X Games record on the line

Four-time world champion snowboarder and intermittent South Tahoe resident Shaun Palmer confirmed Tuesday that he will be competing in the Winter X Games Jan 16-21 in Crested Butte, Colo.

Spotted Tuesday at Heavenly Ski Resort, Palmer said he plans to register in four events at the fifth-annual, ESPN-sponsored Games: downhill mountain biking, snowboard boardercross, ski boardercross and snowmobile boardercross.

Palmer, one of the alternative sports world’s most accomplished and telegenic athletes, will unofficially break new X-Games ground by competing in four events.

“It’s never been done before,” Palmer said. “And I don’t think it will be done again the way things are set up right now.”

Palmer is in town assisting friend Ed McClain with the Heavenly Foundation Snowboard team. He periodically ‘guest coaches,’ which according to McClain, is a real hit with the kids on the team who keep up with his exploits.

Undefeated in X-Games competition, Palmer said he plans to keep his pristine record intact.

“I’ve never been beaten in any of the X-Games competitions,” Palmer said. “And I plan to keep it that way for a while.”
