Pershing hot, but Babe Ruth stars bow out

Buck Pershing put on an offensive show for the 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team, but unfortunately he was the only one who swung a hot bat.

As a team, the All-Stars batted a paltry .222, but held their opponents to only .192 .

The All-Stars dropped their opening game to Carson City 4-3, but came back to shut out Lyon County 6-0. They fell to Sparks 10-5 in the final game.

In their first game, the All Stars were leading 3-1 in the seventh when Carson City rallied to score three runs to win the game.

In the second contest, not only did the first six batters in the lineup all score, but a trio of hurlers faced only two batters over the minimum of 21 for the game.

Spencer Dean and Kevin Schlange each threw three innings with Dean striking out four, including the side in the first. Schlange struck out two in his stint before giving way to Chris Shapiro for the final inning.

Cody Harrington, Joey O’Malley, Alex Yure, Dean, Pershing and Schlange all crossed home in the win.

The All-Stars mounted a furious comeback in the game against Sparks, but it was not enough to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.

Tahoe was down 7-2 when Pershing belted a bases-loaded double to pull the team to within 7-5, but they couldn’t get any closer as Sparks added three more runs.

For the three games, Pershing was 6 for 9 with four doubles and five runs batted in, while Alex Yure was 3 for 8 with five runs scored.
