Pop Warner teams prepare to defend titles

Playoff plans of the Pop Warner football teams look optimistic with three out of four teams on track for bowl games.

After defeating Truckee 39-6 last weekend at South Tahoe Middle School, the Junior Midget Vikings will tangle with Feather River at 8 p.m. on Friday on field No. 9 at the Don Mello Sports Complex in Sparks in the Sagebrush Empire Mountain Division Snow Bowl game. The winner will also move onto the Pacific Northwest Region Division III National Championship to be played on Nov. 23.

The Peewees routed Winnemucca 30-0 to advance to the Snow Bowl for the divison championship. They will also play at 8 p.m. at the Don Mello Sports Complex on field No. 6. The winner will also move onto the Pacific Northwest Region Division III National Championship.

The Junior Peewees moved to the third place bowl game in the Empire Mountain Division against Truckee on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in Truckee.

The Midgets lost to the Sparks Raiders 7-6. Their season is over, but coach Mike Stewart’s team played tough all year despite limited numbers.
