Quinn outduels Rhoden

Steve Yingling

Hockey player Dan Quinn beat former major league pitcher Rick Rhoden on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff Sunday in a Celebrity Players Tour stop in Dallas, Texas.

Quinn, the 1992 Isuzu Celebrity Golf Championship winner at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, parred the second playoff hole while Rhoden bogeyed it.

Rhoden’s tee ball landed in a sand trap as did his second shot. He was unable to get up and down for a par.

“How can I complain – two firsts and one second – but I always feel I can play better,” said Rhoden, a three-time Isuzu Celebrity Golf Championship champion.

Quinn entered the final round with a two-shot lead over Ron Widby, who won in Dallas last year. Rhoden trailed by three shot before Sunday’s final 18 holes.

Rhoden won the tour’s first two events, then Jack Wagner notched his second celebrity golf victory in Puerto Rico.

The eight Celebrity Golf Championship is set for July 4-6 at Edgewood Tahoe.
