Ramos fifth in junior nationals

Amber Ramos and Jason Scott led South Shore freestyle skiers at the U.S. Junior National Championships on Wednesday at Big Mountain, Mont.

Ramos, who also is a national qualifier in mountain biking and cross country running, finished fifth in the girls aerials. The Sierra-at-Tahoe skier was second among J3 competitors.

The South Tahoe Middle School student had the highest single-jump score, but a combined score for two jumps was used to determine the winner.

Scott, also from Sierra-at-Tahoe, placed fourth in the J2 class and 13th overall.

Heavenly’s Jerel Dutton was eighth in the boys J3 division, and South Shore’s Brad Lipovsky was 10th among J3s.
