Ramos wins 27th annual Ponderosa Ridge Run

Last year, Gilberto Ramos of South Lake Tahoe decided to give competitive running a try for the first time when he entered the Ponderosa Ridge Run.

Last Saturday, Ramos returned for the 27th annual Ridge Run and won the race in a time of 1 hour, 30 minutes, 28 seconds over a 9.5-mile course from Spooner Summit to Kingsbury.

Ramos, 30, led wire-to-wire on a cool and overcast day, and finished 11 minutes faster than last year in a race that climbs approximately 2,000 feet in the first four miles.

Ted Smith finished second in 1:37:00, two minutes ahead of Dave Price. Ron Nageotte was fourth in 1:55:54, followed by Gary Dobrenz (1:56:05), Jim Green (2:19:15) and Carol Rapacz (2:31:50).

The average age of the participants was 48.
