After directing Whittell High to a historic athletic school year in 2000-2001, athletic director Larry Reilly is stepping down.

Reilly plans to return to full-time teaching next fall after spending the past several years directing athletics and teaching part-time.

“I don’t want to be a school administrator. I love the classroom,” said Reilly, who teaches civics and U.S. history.

Reilly indicated that the new athletic director will have added responsibilities of enforcing discipline and overseeing attendance.

Reilly doesn’t plan to return as gridiron coach. Any qualified coach interested in applying for that position should contact principal Dick Brownfield at (775) 588-2446.
