Road Warriors get rolled

The Whittell Warrior football team brought its 0-6 record into Hawthorne Saturday afternoon and were served a 48-0 defeat in Northern Nevada 2A football.

“This team has to come together,” Warrior head coach Anthony Esquivel said. “They have to put the time in if they want to be successful.”

Esquivel said his biggest problem this year has not been on the field at game time; it has been during the week at practice.

“We are still having attendance problems,” Esquivel said.

While many aren’t making to practices, those who are are contributing well on the field.

In the Hawthorne match standout players were Brian Jones, Justin Briscoe, Dean Moore, Matt Johnson, Tony Esquivel and Ian Haessley.

Briscoe contributed big time with a number of tackles a fumble recovery and an interception, while Esquivel and Haessley anchored the line.

“Those guys consistently show up for practice and it shows at game time,” Esquivel said.

The Warriors stay out on the road this Friday as they will look for the upset of the year Friday night at undefeated Battle Mountain.
