Salomon second with 76

Ryan Salomon finished second overall with a 4-over-par 76, leading the Whittell High Warriors to third place in a 12-team Nevada 3A-2A tournament Friday at Desert Lakes Golf Course in Fernley.

Ben Bryson of Lowry fired a 1-over 73 for the low round, keying the Buckaroos’ runner-up finish to Manogue. Only three strokes separated first-place Manogue (415) and third-place Whittell.

“It’s the same three schools every time,” said Whittell coach Steve Maltase.

Keith Truswell, who won the previous tournament at Rosewood Lakes, posted Whittell’s next-best score with an 80. Behind Truswell came Patrick Flanagan with 84, Cary White with a season-best 86, Brian Jones with 92 and Parker Fox with 93.

White’s score impressed Maltase, especially since he’s the team’s sixth man.

“I’m pretty happy with his steadiness,” Maltase said.

Whittell will take a break from the stiff competition and join Hawthorne and Incline for a three-team event Thursday at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City.
