Sierra wins city softball tournament

Sierra-at-Tahoe rallied for five seventh-inning runs to defeat Sports Concern 14-11 in the City Men’s D League Softball Tournament championship last Sunday at South Tahoe Middle School.

Doug Smith, Mark O’Neil, Jahn Henderson and Adam LaPaille scored runs after two were out to lead the champions. Thurman Eddy scored the tying run and Henderson delivered the key single.

Ricky Reich’s home run keyed a four-run sixth-inning rally, putting Sports Concern ahead 10-9.

David & Johnson, Mission Adjusters, The Village, Rip-‘N-Willies, Stardust/Americana and California Colors also participated in the two-day tournament.

Sports Concern’s Steve Yonker had a triple, two singles and two runs. Reich also had three hits, including his homer, as did Richard McMillen.

For Sierra-at-Tahoe, Henderson pounded out four hits and scored twice, Tim Reyes delivered three hits and Jim Francis and LaPaille collected three hits and three runs.
