South Lake Tahoe wins four titles in Buddy Werner Invitational

Before a large crowd of spectators, with a bright blue sky overhead and the sun shining down on the skiers, teams from the South Lake Tahoe Buddy Werner Youth Ski League took four out of the six team awards Sunday at Sierra-at-Tahoe.

Skiing in the “A” Division, the Saturday So Lake Tahoe Buddy Werner “A” team took first place for the second consecutive year. Out of the top 10 skiers in the A division, six were from the Saturday A team. Team members of the first-place team were: Kyle Jermsted, Scott Brower, Devin Blann, Kyle Mayfield, Tim Head, Justin McIntyre, Jonathan Coats, Alex Yure, Cody McGehee, Hannah Jermsted, Caitlin Robinson and Mikey Van Gorden. Out of the 12 skiers, 10 of the athletes are still young enough to compete next year.

Also skiing in the A division, the South Lake Tahoe Sunday A Team finished third. Finishing second in the A division was the Johnsville A team, trailing the South Tahoe A team by more than 100 points. Skiing for the Sunday A team were: Reid Monsma, Todd Goodrich, Jeremy Spier, Brennen Davis, Tyler Reiger, Kenny Craig, Evan Maclean, Zach Powers, Holly Young, Alex Pedigo, Joshua Spier and Ryan Duin.

In the B Division, the So Lake Tahoe Saturday B team swept the competition that featured teams representing Johnsville, Truckee, Tahoe City, Mount Rose, Kirkwood, Mammoth and Bishop. The South Lake Tahoe Sunday B team took third place with the Johnsville B team placing second, am exact repeat of the A division awards.

Members of the first-place South Lake Tahoe Saturday B team were: Jenna Extrom, Bobby Gienapp, Dylan Lynn, Kyle Sullivan, Lauren Bachelder, Richie Giesen, Nicholas Heng, Corey Vermillion, Nik Mercado, Darren Perruci, Jacob Hash and Spencer Dean.

The third-place Sunday B team consisted of: Gavin Booth, Treven Hunter, Kyle Mazzoni, Buck Pershing, Katryna Leisz, Amanda Pedigo, Bob Van Nord, Scott Van Nord, Kevin Schlange, Claire Monsma, Tim Powers and Kaitlin Lubetkin.

Winning individual awards in the A Division from South Lake Tahoe were: Kyle Mayfield, first, boys 13- and 14; Caitlin Robinson, first, 13-14 girls; Hannah Jermsted, first, 11-12 girls; Kyle Jermsted, third, 11-12 boys; Reid Monsma, third, 13-14 boys; and Holly Young, third, 13-14 girls.

Skiing in the B Division and earning awards were: Gavin Booth, first, 7-8 boys; Kyle Mazzoni, third in 7-8 boys; Tess Braun, third, 7-8 girls; Bobby Gienapp, first, 11-12 boys; Dylan Lynn, third, 11-12 boys; Jenna Extrom, first, 11-12 girls; Laurne Bachelder, first, 13-14 girls; Katryna Leisz, third, 13-14 girls.

Mt. Rose names Gavrilets new general manager

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe announced that Greg Gavrilets has been hired as its General Manager, replacing long-time ski area leader Paul Senft, who retired after a 42-year career with the resort.
