South Tahoe Babe Ruth team on winning streak

The South Tahoe Senior Babe Ruth team, sponsored by American Mortgage, pushed its win streak to six with a sweep of the Reno Yankees, 12-4 and 16-6, Sunday in South Lake Tahoe.

In the opener, Dusty Gooch allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in five innings of work. Jeff Jensen mopped up.

The locals got all they needed in the first inning, plating seven times on hits by Phil Villeza, Carson Triggs and Thrace Ramsey. Matt Jensen finished with three hits including a double, while Gooch tripled.

In the nightcap, the Seniors pounded enough to invoke the 10-run mercy rule. Matt Jensen knocked it around the yard, collecting a double and triple in four hits while scoring three runs. Thrace Ramsey doubled and tripled in four hits. Villeza singled twice while Chris Barna doubled in two hits. Carson Triggs held Reno to two runs through four innings.

Tahoe will host the annual Fourth of July Tournament, starting with the home team against Fairfield on Thursday at 9 a.m. at Todd Fields. Eight teams will compete throughout the weekend.
