The South Tahoe boys basketball team opens its 2015 season on Friday night, Nov. 27, against a familiar face. The Vikings host Foothill (Sacramento) at the Blue Gym on Friday at 7 p.m., tipping off their campaign against a Mustangs team coached by former STHS basketball standout Drew Hibbs.

Hibbs won the Northern Nevada League MVP award during the 1984 season, and is one of the South Tahoe legends that adorn the gym’s southwest wall. He has coached Foothill, which plays in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. 4, for more than two decades and is going for a milestone 400th career win down the sideline from his alma mater.

“We always have good games with them in summer league — they’re always really close,” Vikings senior Ethan Strain said. “Hopefully this time we can pull out the win.”
