The South Tahoe boys soccer team got its offense back in gear, notching a 4-1 win over Fallon on Tuesday at the South Tahoe Middle School.

After scoring just one goal in the previous four contests, including being shutout in the last three, position changes paid dividends for the Vikings, who find themselves in the thick of the Northern Nevada 4A Division 2 playoff race.

“It was a cool October day, but we came out ready to play,” said Tahoe coach Joe Winters. “We needed the win badly and we needed to put the ball in the net. We’ve moved some players around. We played well.”

Brain Winters and Alex Romagnolo each scored two goals for the Vikings (6-5-1), while Angel Hernandez tallied two assists. Joe Winters credited his defense with another solid outing.

“The key is that we’re getting opportunities and some things are starting to happen. It was definitely a dominating performance,” Winters said.

The South Tahoe girls tennis team lost to Douglas, 14.5-8, on Tuesday in Minden.

The doubles team of Nikki Moore and Crystal Hixenbaugh stayed hot, winning two matches. The pairing of Lisa Forkner/Jenny Olsen and Lisa Borges/Danielle Ledesma each added wins. On the singles side, Brooke Shively and Danielle Haven each had wins. Haven’s was her first as a Viking.

South Tahoe’s record stands at 7-5, including today’s forfeit win over Wooster.
