South Tahoe boys tennis beats Fallon in tiebreaker

FALLON, Nev. — Three rounds couldn’t separate the South Tahoe and Fallon boys tennis teams on Thursday — but the Vikings had the upper hand in the tiebreaker. South Tahoe took four of six sets from the Greenwave in the tiebreaker round for a 10-9 road victory.

South Tahoe (7-2 Division I-A) won two tiebreakers apiece in singles and doubles play to take the tiebreaker over Fallon (4-6). On the singles side, Vikings No. 1 Adam Jarrett (8-6) and No. 3 Hawley Jarrett (7-4) delivered wins while STHS’ No. 2 doubles team of Lucas Demsar and Mickey Sullivan and its No. 3 doubles team of Matthew Barnett and Jonathan LaRue each won 7-3.

South Tahoe faced Fallon without its top doubles team, and seven of the Vikings’ nine set victories came in singles play on Thursday. Adam Jarrett swept his three sets 6-3, 6-0, 6-2, No. 2 singles player Louis Marin won two of three with scores of 6-7 (5), 6-2 and 6-2, and Hawley Jarrett delivered wins in the first and third rounds.

On the doubles side, Daniel Sandborn and Gabe Tenocelotl played in the No. 1 spot and won in the second round, finishing with scores of of 2-6, 6-3 and 1-6. The No. 2 team of Lucas Demsar and Sullivan was swept 1-6, 1-6, 2-6.

In the No. 3 doubles spot, South Tahoe won one of three sets against Fallon. Barnett and LaRue split 6-3, 3-6 in the first two rounds, and the team of Jackson Kuzmik and Janez Demsar fell 0-6 in the last round.

South Tahoe concluded its regular season Friday against North Tahoe at STHS courts. The Vikings will either finish second or third in the final Division I-A standings, with NIAA Regionals beginning next week.
