South Tahoe falls into losers’ bracket in Babe Ruth tourney

After trailing 6-5 in the sixth inning on Sunday night, South Tahoe received eight more lumps to the head from Sparks to fall 14-5 and drop into the consolation bracket against Reno West in Babe Ruth All-Star 15 Tournament at Todd Fields.

South Tahoe began tied 3-3 with Sparks, which walloped High Desert 22-1 Saturday night.

South Tahoe fell behind in the fourth inning, when Sparks went up by two.



South Tahoe then tied the game at 5 in the top of the fifth, only to fall behind again by one in the sixth inning.

Then Sparks took a definitive lead scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth to head into the final inning ahead 12-5.



Marcus Mellberg started on the mound. Matt Bobman, Jake Cain and Chris Thorne each shared time on the bump before Sparks finished seven innings on top with 14 runs.

South Tahoe left 11 runners on base to Sparks’ six. The home team was outhit 9-4.

South Tahoe (1-1) entertained Reno West late Monday night, with the loser being eliminated from tournament play.
