South Tahoe High School boys soccer blanks Senators

In the first of a couple big games for the South Tahoe High boys soccer team, the Vikings defeated the Carson Senators 2-0 Friday afternoon in South Tahoe Middle School.

In the second minute, Chris McKean stole the ball on a Carson throw-in deep in Tahoe’s territory, knocked it in Kerim Posadas’ direction and Posadas made a diving shot that put the Vikings up 1-0.

“Kerim’s shot was perfectly placed,” Vikings coach Joe Winters said.

In the 32nd minute of the first half, the Viking offense struck again. The defense cleared the ball to the midfield where Alex Torres flipped the ball forward to Carlos Davila, who ran onto the ball before Carson’s keeper and flipped into the upper part of the net for the score.

Davila’s goal capped the scoring for the game. But, in the second half, Torres tripped a Carson player who popped up and punched the freshman in the back of the head, causing both players to be ejected.

South Tahoe’s defense shut down the Senator offense for the rest of the game, not letting them get the ball past the midfield.

“The game was totally dominated by us after that,” Winters said. “They never got close the rest of the game.”

The win improves the Vikings’ record to 8-1-1 and sets the table for Wednesday’s showdown against Douglas at STMS at 3:30 p.m.

“Wednesday’ game is the battle for first place,” Winters said. It’s also our last home game so we want it badly.”
