Katelyn Pakes had 13 points, six steals and four rebounds to lead the South Tahoe girls’ basketball team to a 41-29 nonleague win over North Tahoe on Thursday in Tahoe City.
The Vikings (2-0) led 13-12 at halftime before outscoring the Lakers 28-17 in the second half. Pakes scored nine of her team-high 13 points in the third quarter. North Tahoe (0-2) jumped out to an early 8-5 lead, then the Vikings eventually took the lead for good.
“Once the lid got off the basket there, we were all right,” said coach Mark Shehadi. “We’re still not very patient on offense, but it’s getting there.”
Stephanie Morrow had seven steals and eight rebounds for the Vikings, who recorded 46 rebounds and 27 steals. Freshman Tess Braun had three steals, three points and seven rebounds.
South Tahoe travels to Reno on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. against Galena.
