CARSON CITY, Nev. — The South Tahoe AYSO U-10 Lava soccer team went to the Cookies Best Tournament and left with a championship. The Lava won the tournament held in Carson City on Oct. 25 in dramatic fashion, prevailing in a shootout to capture the title.

The Lava finished atop their group following a three-game group stage to advance to the championship match. The championship was tied at the end of regulation and overtime, resulting in a shootout — in the shootout, South Tahoe won 3-1 with three tremendous saves from goalkeeper Matteus Sokulsky.

Sokulsky and teammate Nico Wagner were chosen to represent South Tahoe on the U-10 boys all-star team at this weekend’s Regional All-Star Tournament in Carson City. The all-stars will play teams from Bishop, Carson City and Incline.
