South Tahoe starts to ‘Hitt’ strides

South Tahoe High sophomore guard Lindsey Hitt lived up to her last name by nailing big shots in a 45-38 division hoops win over Wooster on Friday.

Hitt hit five 3-pointers and finished with a Vikings season-high 24 points as South Tahoe improved to 5-12 overall, 2-2 in Northern Nevada 4A Division II play with the win. She also had 13 rebounds for the Vikings, who plunged back into the thick of the division race.

“She has been shooting well, and once she’s on, she can hit ’em,” said South Tahoe head coach Tim Jaureguito, whose team started league play since 1996. “And she was on warming up. We had a pretty good idea before we started she was on and she could be producing some points.”

The Vikings combined solid defense with Hitt’s outburst to improve to .500 in league play. Reserve forward Ashley Larmore, who also impressed Jaureguito in Tuesday’s loss at Reno, helped key the Vikings defense down the stretch as South Tahoe held off a late Wooster charge. South Tahoe’s press produced turnovers early before the team packed into a half-court set to defend the lead.

“The key going into it was we had to play good defense, and I think we did play good defense,” Jaureguito said.

Still, the third-year Vikings coach doesn’t want his team to become too reliant on one scorer.

“I don’t want to depend on one person, and the key to winning games the rest of our season is our big girls have got to score,” Jaureguito said.
