SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — With Race the Lake of the Sky on the horizon, South Tahoe SUP Series drew a record number of entrants Wednesday night at El Dorado Beach. The second week of the standup paddle series hosted by South Tahoe Standup Paddle had 158 entrants between the main race and SUP Cross event.

Kelly Margetts of Australia won the overall title Wednesday night, completing the course in 35:07 — the 42-year-old jumped out to an early lead en route to a comfortable victory over the rest of the 104-paddler field. Daniel Russell of Laguna Niguel, Calif. took second (35:43), edging out Taylor Rambo of San Clemente, Calif. (35:49).

Shae Foudy was the top female finisher in Wednesday’s race — the 16-year-old placed ninth overall on a 12’6” board with a time of 36:50. The course included four laps and a portion where paddlers could either limbo under a bar or dismount their boards and while going over a platform.

The second week of the South Tahoe SUP Series also served as a lead-in for the fourth-annual Race the Lake of the Sky, which will be held Saturday and Sunday. The series resumes on Wednesday, July 8.
