South Tahoe swimmers lap it up

Kristi Collins won high point in girls 17-and-up division and placed first in every event to lead the South Tahoe Swim Team at a youth meet last month in Minden.

Members of the South Tahoe Swim Team traveled to Minden on Feb. 12-14 for the Douglas Dolfins’ annual Valentine Day swim meet. The host team invited eight teams and attracted 375 swimmers. Fifty swimmers, ages 5 to 17, represented South Tahoe.

Also for Tahoe, Eddie Shepard won high point in boys 17 and up and set a personal-record time in the 100 backstroke. Ted Odlin’s swam his first A time in the 200 backstroke.



In addition, Tahoe’s 11-12 girls relay teams, coached by Dale Bogard, placed third in the 200 individual medley, and Tahoe’s 10-and-under girls relay team, coached by Randy Burns, placed third in the 200 freestyle.

The meet started on a Friday night with two events, the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Tahoe had two swimmers partake in the 500 freestyle. Denise Bogard placed fourth, and Lacey Payne placed fifth. A busy Saturday and Sunday provided 25 events per day, making for a demanding weekend for the coaching staff.




A-AA medals earned by Tahoe swimmers included: Melissa Anstett, 100 individual medley, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle; Courtney Blann, 100 individual medley; Lauren Falls, 100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle; Jordan Hardy, 100 breaststroke; Christa Jones, 100 butterfly; Lacey Leonard, 100 individual medley; Jason Meller, 100 freestyle; Ted Odlin, 200 backstroke; Lacey Payne, 100 butterfly, 50 butterfly; Natalie Turner, 100 individual medley, 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly.
