SOUTH TAHOE FOOTBALL ROUTS WOOSTER 42-10, WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT
RENO, Nev. — The South Tahoe football team extended its winning streak in decisive fashion on the road Friday, Sept. 30. The Vikings routed Wooster 42-10 in a 3A Northern League contest, notching their fourth straight win.
South Tahoe (5-1 3A Northern) returns home to play its annual Homecoming game this Friday, Oct. 7, at Viking Stadium. The Vikings host Dayton — kickoff at Viking Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
WHITTELL GIRLS SOCCER TIES WHITE PINE 2-2 IN BATTLE OF LEAGUE UNBEATENS
ELY, Nev. — The Whittell girls soccer team played to a draw in a showdown between league unbeatens Thursday, Sept. 29. The Warriors tied White Pine 2-2 on the road, allowing a second-half rally after taking a two-goal lead into halftime.
Whittell opened the scoring against the Bobcats with two goals in a five-minute span late in the first half. Senior Ali Copsy found the back of the net with a free kick in the 31st minute, and five minutes later sophomore Anna White scored off an assist from sophomore Isabella Cibulsky.
After the break, White Pine scored in the 55th and 69th minutes to pull even. One of the Bobcats’ goals came from Samantha Gamberg, who currently leads the state in scoring.
The following day, the Warriors bounced back with a 5-0 win at West Wendover. Whittell scored all its goals in the first 37 minutes against the Wolverines, including two from White.
Whittell (7-1-1, 6-0-1 Class 3A) begins the second round of league play Saturday, Oct. 8, at Dayton. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
VIKINGS BOYS SOCCER FALLS AT NORTH TAHOE 4-0, IN SEVENTH AT MIDWAY POINT
TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The South Tahoe boys soccer team capped the first round of 3A Northern League play with a defeat on the road Friday, Sept. 30. The Vikings fell at North Tahoe 4-0, a result that leaves them in seventh place halfway through their league schedule.
South Tahoe (2-7-1, 2-5-1 3A Northern) gave up two goals to the Lakers in each half Friday en route to defeat. The Vikings are two spots out of playoff position with eight league matches left, and trail fifth-place Incline (7-2-4, 2-1-4) by three points.
The Vikings return to action Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they open the second round of league play at Lowry. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
WARRIORS VOLLEYBALL SWEPT AT SMITH VALLEY
SMITH, Nev. — The Whittell volleyball team couldn’t break through against the defending Div. IV state champions on the road Saturday, Oct. 1. The Warriors were swept by Smith Valley 13-25, 22-25, 10-25 in a 1A West League contest.
Whittell (2-10, 1-3 1A West) returned to action Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Sierra Lutheran. The Warriors travel to play Pyramid Lake on Thursday, Oct. 6 — first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
