SOUTH TAHOE GIRLS SOCCER BLANKS NORTH TAHOE 3-0 IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The South Tahoe girls soccer team capped its regular season with a shutout win on the road Saturday, Oct. 29. The Vikings beat North Tahoe 3-0 in a 3A Northern League matchup between playoff-bound clubs.
South Tahoe (14-5, 13-3 3A Northern) got a goal apiece from senior Ana Garcia, junior Bailey Segers and junior Samantha Frates in Saturday’s win. Garcia finished the regular season with a team-leading 21 goals while Segers totaled 15.
Senior Claudia Janese made five saves while keeping North Tahoe (9-9-2, 7-7-2) out of the net. The shutout was South Tahoe’s third straight and 10th of the season.
The Vikings enter the regional playoffs as 3A Northern’s second seed, and open against 2A Northern third seed Pershing County (12-8-1) at Lowry High on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. The 3A Northern Region tournament continues at Lowry on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5.
VIKINGS VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS FERNLEY, FINISHES FOURTH IN LEAGUE
FERNLEY, Nev. — The South Tahoe volleyball team concluded league play on a winning note Thursday, Oct. 27. The Vikings swept Fernley 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 on the road in a 3A Northern League match.
For South Tahoe (17-8, 10-6 3A Northern), the win secured a fourth-place finish in the league standings. In the victory, senior Zoe Mosedale led the Vikings offense with 24 assists.
Junior Novel Moses had eight kills and nine digs against the Vaqueros while junior McKenna Brewer finished with eight kills and two solo blocks. Defensively, senior Ashley Bricker had a team-high 19 digs while seniors Sarah Smith and Brynna Hembree added seven apiece.
South Tahoe concluded the regular season with a non-league match at Yerington on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The Vikings open the postseason against fifth-seeded Lowry (11-16, 9-7) in the 3A Northern League quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 4, at Churchill County High in Fallon — first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
STHS BOYS SOCCER TIES NORTH TAHOE 3-3 TO CLOSE OUT SEASON
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The South Tahoe boys soccer team ended its 2016 campaign with a positive result at home Saturday, Oct. 29. The Vikings tied playoff-bound North Tahoe 3-3 at Viking Stadium, and finished tied for sixth place in the league standings.
South Tahoe (4-11-4, 4-9-3 3A Northern) got goals from senior Frankie Perez, junior Armando Rosales and freshman Nick Sanchez in the draw. Senior Lex Merrifield played goalkeeper for the Vikings on Saturday, subbing in for the team’s injured starter.
WHITTELL VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO SIERRA LUTHERAN IN SEASON FINALE
ZEPHYR COVE — The Whittell volleyball team fell at home in its season finale Friday, Oct. 28. The Warriors were swept by Sierra Lutheran 18-25, 15-25, 21-25 — and finished the season 2-15 overall with a 1-8 mark in 1A West League play.
