Sports Roundup: South Tahoe Pop Warner junior varsity football wins season opener

SOUTH TAHOE POP WARNER JV FOOTBALL WINS SEASON OPENER
The South Tahoe Pop Warner junior varsity football team delivered a victory in its season opener Saturday, Sept. 10. The Vikings beat the Silver Stage Nighthawks 38-6.
In the win for South Tahoe (1-0), Giovanni Morales and Kai Collin ran for touchdowns and Brandon Ruiz scored on a punt return. Leif Ferrier scored points via both a safety and two-point conversion, while Derek Robbins ran touchdown and recovered a fumble for a score.
Defensive standouts in South Tahoe’s season opener included Jeremy Smiley, Justin Vinson and Kaden Leake. The Vikings stopped the Nighthawks repeatedly in the victory.
South Tahoe returns to action Saturday, Sept. 17, against the Reno Wolfpack. Kickoff at Bishop Manogue High (Reno, Nev.) is scheduled for 3 p.m.
