SOUTH TAHOE VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO LOWRY IN 3A NORTHERN LEAGUE QUARTERFINALS
FALLON, Nev. — The South Tahoe volleyball team’s season ended with a quick postseason exit at the 3A Northern League tournament. The fourth-seeded Vikings were swept by fifth-seeded Lowry 18-25, 13-25, 24-26 in the league quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 4, at Churchill County High.
South Tahoe (17-10) couldn’t avoid defeat against the Buckaroos, who lost in the semifinals to eventual tournament champion Truckee. The Wolverines advanced to the 3A State tournament along with third-seeded Dayton.
Senior Maya Brosch led the Vikings with eight kills and a strong defensive effort in the team’s season-ending defeat. Senior Novel Moses finished with seven kills and 12 digs, and senior Zoe Mosedale totaled 18 assists and seven digs.
Defensively for South Tahoe on Friday, senior Ashley Bricker finished with a team-high 21 digs. Junior McKenna Brewer added three blocks.
WHITTELL GIRLS SOCCER ELIMINATED BY NORTH TAHOE IN 3A NORTHERN REGION QUARTERFINALS
WINNEMUCCA, Nev. — The Whittell girls soccer team had its campaign come to a crashing end in the 3A Northern Region playoffs Thursday, Nov. 3. The 2A Northern League champion Warriors fell to 3A Northern fourth seed North Tahoe 6-1 in the regional quarterfinals at Lowry High, their most lopsided loss of the season.
Whittell (13-2-2) split its two regular season meetings with the Lakers prior to the teams’ postseason rematch. The Warriors had gone 16 straight matches without a defeat before Thursday’s season-ending loss.
LAKE TAHOE CC SOCCER WINS BIG AGAINST SISKIYOUS IN DOUBLEHEADER
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The Lake Tahoe Community College soccer teams delivered decisive victories while sweeping a Golden Valley Conference doubleheader Friday, Nov. 4. The Coyotes handled College of the Siskiyous at home, highlighted by a 12-0 victory from the men’s team.
Lake Tahoe’s men’s team (10-4-6, 6-1-3 GVC) scored a season-high 12 goals Friday, led by hat tricks from sophomore Jack Larter and freshman Sean Keith. Sophomores Stephen Flora and Alberto Asencio added two goals apiece in the win, while freshmen Hector Garibay and Kirk Schroder also found the back of the net.
The Coyotes’ women’s team (9-5-4, 6-2-2) bounced back with a 5-2 win over the Eagles on Friday. Sophomore Shawa Guerrero-Escobedo had four goals in the victory, raising her season total to 18 goals and 10 assists — freshman Marlie Mandaguit also scored for Lake Tahoe.
LTCC led 2-0 at halftime, and stayed comfortably in front after the break courtesy of a hat trick from Guerrero-Escobedo. The Coyotes likely need to win both of their final two regular season wins to have a chance at the playoffs.
Lake Tahoe returned to action with a home doubleheader against Shasta College on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The Coyotes conclude the regular season with a twinbill against College of the Redwoods to be played at Butte College on Thursday, Nov. 10.
