ST Little League opening day set for Saturday

South Tahoe Little League is celebrating the start of its 2015 season Saturday. An Opening Day celebration is planned at the South Tahoe Little League Complex, located at 1175 Rufus Allen Blvd.

On Saturday, a parade and ribbon-cutting ceremony are planned to take place prior to the start of scheduled games. The parade will start on the street next to the South Tahoe Middle School tennis courts at 9 a.m. with a planned path to follow Lyons Avenue to Rufus Allen Blvd., and into the majors field by way of the snack shack entrance.

Parking will not be available at South Tahoe Middle School due to the eWaste collection event taking place on the same day. Parking will be available along Rufus Allen Blvd. and in the parking lot at the SLT Recreation and Swim Complex located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Cooperation between South Tahoe National Little League, Lake Tahoe Unified School District, the City of South Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe Recreation Facilities Joint Powers Authority, Fields Advisory Committee and Community Athletic Coordinating Council has resulted in local opportunities. The latest is the new multi-use field and tee ball field in the Little League complex that benefit kids and the community.

The Fields Advisory Committee met last week and made final decisions on the spending of the $500,000 that was allocated for fields with the passing of Measure R. The added multi-purpose field at Al Tahoe was built last summer, and is ready for use this season. The final $29,825 of the $500,000 will go for added backstop and streetside (along Rufus Allen Blvd.) safety netting on the new field, plus needed fencing at the tee ball field that was built at the back of the Al Tahoe property.
