STAT golf tourney Sept. 17

Although two years have passed since Support South Tahoe Athletic Teams helped save sports at South Tahoe High and South Tahoe Middle School, the fundraising group hasn’t disbanded.

STAT has moved onto other causes in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, counting on a Sept. 17 golf tournament at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise 50 percent of this year’s funds.

Last year, STAT supported the attendance initiative at STHS, which helped raise $25,000 in school facility improvements. In addition, STAT awarded six STHS student athletes $500 scholarships and arranged for the school to begin concussion testing for all of its athletes this summer.

In the coming year, STAT is focusing on generating money to help build a new track/soccer field at STMS.

Community members can participate in the golf tournament in one of two ways – as a player or hole sponsor. The four-player scramble tournament costs $260 per team or $65 per player. Businesses can sponsor or co-sponsor holes for $250 and $125, respectively. Checks can be sent to Goal Club/STAT at P.O. Box 16903, South Lake Tahoe, Calif., 96151.

A putting contest precedes the tournament at 8 a.m. and a barbecue lunch follows the 18-hole event. Teams are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible, because the tournament has reached capacity the past two years.

For more information about the tournament or to register, phone Vikki Grant at (530) 541-7744.
