Steamers, Brew Crew win hockey titles

Staff and city league reports

Championships are being decided in the city of South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation summer adult hockey leagues.

Steamers captured the B division crown by edging the Flyers 4-3 last week at South Lake Tahoe Ice Rink, while the Brew Crew blanked Tahoe Fracture 3-0 earlier this month.

Steamers held on despite Buzz Bruzzese’s goal with 1 minute, 3 seconds left in their title game. Steamers took control behind the play of Joe Marzoco, who tallied a goal and an assist.

Adrian Brown, Kurt Frankenberg, Louis Cross each scored a goal for Steamers, while Paul Huard and Jim Dunleavy collected a goal and an assist for the Flyers.

The Brew Crew made a first-period goal by Steve McGoff stand up in winning the C league title.

Tahoe Fracture kept the score at 1-0 until Paul Comba and Ron Waller connected twice for goals in the final half of the third period. Comba was on the receiving end of both goals.

A third title game was decided on Sunday with the Storm squaring off with the Tahoe Fog for the A division championship. Results weren’t available at press time.

For all interested players, the next adult league runs from Sept. 17 through Dec. 20.
