MEDFORD, Ore. — An opening loss at the Rogue Memorial Challenge didn’t keep the STFC Storm U-12 girls soccer team from capturing the ultimate prize. The Storm won four straight games to take first place in its division in the tournament held Memorial Day weekend May 23-25.

“It was a total team effort,” Storm coach Brian Hogan said. “Playing one soccer game is tough enough, and playing five over three days is all the more difficult — the team played hard throughout the tournament and was rewarded for their efforts.”

After dropping its first match in pool play 4-2, the Storm advanced to the Sierra Division championship by winning their next matches with scores of 2-0, 6-0, and 8-0. The Storm then bested the Grants Pass Blazers 3-1 in the final to earn first-place medals.

“We were up 2-1 at halftime of the first match and let it get away from us in the second half,” Hogan said. “I was proud with how they responded and took over the next four games.”
