The South Tahoe high boys’ swimming team got back to its winning ways on Friday against Spanish Springs High, while the Vikings’ girls lost their third straight meet.

Zack Powers led the Vikings with two individual wins, taking the 100 and 500 freestyle races back-to-back. Devin Blann (200 individual medley), Jason Schmedes (50 freestyle), Travis Travis (100 butterfly) and Brian Collins (100 backstroke) all won individual events for South Tahoe, and the Vikings swept the relays as well on the way to a comfortable 143-87 win.

The South Tahoe girls had some impressive performances, including two wins from both Melissa Anstett and Jorie Turner, but Spanish Springs had an advantage in depth, entering the maximum four swimmers in most events and taking a 150-136 win.

The match swung on the 50-yard freestyle race as Spanish Springs took the top four places for a 23-6 scoring edge.

South Tahoe hosts Reno High on Saturday in the last regular-season meet. Regional qualifiers start on May 14 in Carson City.
