STHS girls score perfect 15
South Tahoe High ran with tired legs on Wednesday in Sparks, but Bishop Manogue probably didn’t notice.
The STHS girls scored a perfect 15 and four of the top six boys runners wore blue and gold in the dual meet at Reed High School.
Vikings’ coaches Dominique Westlake and Dan Wilvers trained their teams hard this week in preparation for the upcoming Stanford Invitational.
“There definitely was a fatigue factor today,” Westlake said. “We just wanted them to get a good workout in and learn to run the first mile under control.”
Patrick Reilly, a Vikings’ sophomore, won the 3.1-mile boys’ race in 18 minutes, 38 seconds as STHS finished 14 points better than Manogue.
Reilly ran off a Manogue runner’s shoulder for the first mile and then took charge of the race. Teammate Jack Williams was runner-up in 19:36 and Joey Summerhill of the Vikings was fifth in 19:59.
Matt Arroues and Joe Young finished ninth and 10th for the Vikings at 21:12 and 22:02.
A nagging foot injury kept Vikings’ Kyle Conroy out of action and Westlake is unsure when his junior will return.
The girls, the preseason No. 2 team in the Nike Team Nationals Southwest Region, again showed their superior depth by grapping the top seven places.
Sophomore Kate Lambdin led the way, winning the 5K in 21:23. She was closely followed by freshman Kylie Noll in 21:31 and senior Megan Hillyard in 22:08. Fourth through seventh places went to Kimmy Arroues (22:16), Jordan Dalton (22:25), Kelsey McClurg (22:54) and Lacey Payne (24:29).
The STHS boys will compete at Nevada Union High in Grass Valley on Saturday morning.
