STHS ‘Powers’ to ninth

The South Tahoe High boys’ swimming team finished ninth at the Nevada 4A state championship meet in Las Vegas on Saturday despite entering only three events.

Zack Powers competed in all three events, placing fifth in the 100 freestyle and swimming legs on the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. The freestyle relay finished fifth, while the medley relay was sixth.

Powers’ brother, Tim, and Devin Blann were also members of both relays, with Travis Travis filling out the medley team and Sean Nelson the freestyle team.

Natalie Turner finished sixth in the 200 freestyle, the only South Tahoe girl to compete at the championship meet.

Boulder City High took home the boys’ team title, while Reno won the girls’ championship.
