South Tahoe Middle School 8th graders finish just short of championship
The South Tahoe Middle School eighth grade boys’ basketball team made a strong push for the Tah-Neva League Tournament championship Saturday, Dec. 2, at Incline High School but fell just short.
The Timberwolves were seeded No. 4 entering the end of season tournament after finishing the regular season at 6-4. But they knocked off Lake Tahoe School 58-48 and then topped the Pau Wa Lu, the top seed, 64-60 to reach the final. STMS handed Pau Wa Lu its only two losses of the season.
STMS played Carson Valley for the championship but lost that battle. It didn’t help that STMS star Andrew Lehmann went down with a broken ankle in the second quarter.
The seventh grade boys won their first game 30-17 against Incline but fell to Pau Wa Lu in the second. Kenny Russell hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer for STMS but the Timberwolves still lost 36-18. The seventh graders finished fourth.
