"Sweet Pea" to fight at Caesars

Former four-time boxing champion Pernell Whitaker hasn’t fought in 25 months, but “Sweatpea” will end that inactivity April 27 at Caesars Tahoe in Stateline.

Whitaker (41-3-1, 17 KOs) will fight Carlos Bojorquez of Los Angeles in a junior middleweight nontitle bout, which is scheduled to be televised by ESPN2 for Friday Night Fights.

Whitaker, who has won championships as a lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight and junior middleweight, hasn’t fought since losing a 12-round decision to undefeated WBA and IBF junior middleweight champion Felix Trinidad in February 1999. The 37-year-old Whitaker reportedly has been training in Las Vegas.

Bojorquez gives up nine years of experience and 25 fights. The 28-year-old Bojorquez has a pro record of 14-4-2 with 10 KOs.

Tickets are on sale at Caesars for $125, $75, $50 and $25. An undercard will be announced at a later date.
