Tahoe BMX racers score weekend of firsts in Reno

Numerous South Shore BMXers made their presence felt at the Reno Black Jack Nationals of BMX over the Labor Day holiday weekend at the Reno Livestock Events Center.

Ten local racers took first place in their respective races, while, in all, there were 25 riders who finished in the top 10. Many of the riders had either won for the first time or raced for the first time.

The star of the local riders was “A” Pro rider Shannon Torglia, who succeeded in capturing seven first-place finishes throughout the weekend and finished fourth and fifth overall on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Also taking firsts were Briana Clinton, Kyle Wallace, Matthew Lynch, Frankie Jones, Josh Thomaselli, Lauren Thomaselli (2), John Thomaselli, Frankie Jones and Tanner Braun.

There are a total of 23 national events held throughout the country every year. The circuit stops in Reno twice a year, once in January and once in September. The final national standings are determined by taking a rider’s top-six national finishes.

Every rider who finishes in the top 10 of his/her age group receives a national ranking and award, which is presented at the first national of the year in Reno in January.
